Captain Jon Baker
US Coast Guard 100 Ton Master (Since 1986)
I started sailing when I was 8 years old on small prams and later racing Hobie Cats. As I got older I was drawn to larger sailing yachts and more open water.
After graduating from college I studied at Chapman School of Seamanship before acquiring my Coast Guard 100 ton Masters License. I have made passages from Alaska south and across the Pacific to Hawaii before getting married to my wife, Jeannette, and dropping anchor (so to speak) in the San Juans.
Aboard Northwind most of my time is spent either navigating or helping out in the galley, as I love to cook. I also am happy to go on hikes or point you in the right direction. I enjoy teaching people to steer the boat and handle the sheets, but I am able to do it all if you prefer to relax.
I have a naturalist background as my undergraduate studies were in Salmon Fisheries and Marine Biology. I am happy to educate you about our resident marine life and local flora and fauna. Jette and I take great pride in introducing our guests to our magical area and seeing the joy of their discoveries.

Captain Jeannette “Jette” Baker
US Coast Guard 100 Ton Master
Chef Extraordinaire, galley dancer, and guitar player
Jon and I work together well as a team. We have been sailing together for over 30 years, and I acquired my Coast Guard Masters license in 2000.
I have enjoyed blue water cruising on passages to Hawaii, but mostly my sea time has been in the coastal islands of the San Juans, Alaska and British Columbia. I was also a volunteer EMT and firefighter in my home community.
In my spare time I enjoy wood carving, reading, and playing guitar. People ask if I like being a chef on Northwind, and I answer that what I love is feeding people. I enjoy providing delicious cuisine and enjoying it together, complete with candlelight in this beautiful island setting. What could be better than that?
With over 30 years of experience in crewed charters we think we have assembled the finest sailing yacht and the best crew in the islands.
Geni (Genoa She Who Wags)
Branch Manager – In Charge of Sticks
Geni is a Portuguese Water Dog who loves to ride the zodiac to shore and explore each new island. She is a non-shedding (hypoallergenic) breed, and weighs just 35lbs. Geni loves to birdwatch, even if the bird is an airplane or helicopter. She has an uncanny ability to show you port from starboard, with at least 60% accuracy. She loves a good hike and will show you all the best trails! She is named for the big jib sail called a Genoa, or Geni for short.
